Workshops

The majority of workshops we offer are hand-building. They do not involve using a potter's wheel. They are 1-3 hours in length & consist of making a paticular object such as a mug, bowl, tray, ect. Instruction is given on a step by step basis to take a blank slab or clay and form it into the project for that class. Once constructed, a glaze color is picked. We then fire and glaze the pot to be returned at a later date. - Public classes are offered or it can be scheduled as a private event with a minimum of 5 persons & maximum of 15 persons. Workshops are offered to anyone of any experience level. No prior expereience is required. Contact the sttudio for private scheduling.

Even though we will be in the studio and can help guide you, you must be able to work on your own. A membership will give you access to a wheel, space for hand-building, tools, studio equipment, a shelf, and a selection of glazes. Firing of your work is included in the price & done when able. Clay is limited to 100# per month, & must be purchase from the studio unless otherwise authorized by the owners. We have several different clay bodies. They are sold in 50# boxes at market price. The membership fee is due on or before the 1st of each month. After 1 week without payment, your shelf will be cleared and any work unclaimed by the 15th of the month will be discarded. Our studio is not intended nor equipped for production work. This will be at the discretion of the owners.

ABOUT US

ABOUT US

Combined we have more than 25 years of

experience working in clay

We both began working on the potter's wheel in 2003: Ruth at Indian Valley High School & Todd at Lock Haven University. After high school, Ruth attended HACC and continued her work with clay, learning the specifics of what it means to be a studio potter.

In 2006, Todd opened his own studio under the name Wildfire Pottery. He specializes in functional pottery using several different types of clays & firing methods. His work involves elegant forms pleasing to both the eyes and the hands.

In 2014, Ruth opened her own studio under the name Ruthie's Pottery. She makes functional pottery that fits into the everyday life. Her work is a reflection of what she likes: simple, unique, & beautiful.

In late 2017, we collaborated to host a potter's market. Soon after this event, we began the process of joining our talents to open Hometown Potters' Studio llc. We strive to make clay accessible to everyone.

Without the formal education we received early on, we would not be where we are today. For that reason, we offer a 10% discount for the 6 week classes to any currently enrolled high school or college student.
